I am a lifelong cyclist, enjoying the aspects of both road and mountain bike culture. My entire adult life has been in bicycle retail. Beginning my career in 1974, I began as a bicycle mechanic, moved on to manage a high end shop, then opened and operated my own pro shop for over 25 years. Throughout this period I never lost interest in the mechanical development of cycling: I very much enjoy building wheels, complete frame builds, and restoring both mountain and road bikes.
BikeWorks in Sylvania, Ohio was my life for the past 28 years. The shop expanded and changed with the times from a small retail space to a larger location that made space for custom bike and fit studio, establishing BikeWorks as northwest Ohio’s premier bike shop.
Through the decades, I was witness to the monumental advancements in cycling technology that have revolutionized bikes and the way people ride them: new frame materials, electronic shifters, disc brakes, and carbon fiber advancements to name a few.
Through these same decades, I was at the forefront of fit training and technology: FitKit, Pro Bike Fit, Trek School of Fitting, Paul Swift and since 2009, 3D Motion Capture by Retul. It is with the advancement of fit technology that my career has taken shape from a retail store owner to a custom bike and fit expert.
Having the knowledge, expertise and tools to connect a customer to a one of a kind custom bike has been the most satisfying aspect of my years in the bicycle world.
My collection of personal bikes ranges from restored vintage race bikes to cutting edge road and mountain bikes, custom road, mountain and randonneur bikes and tandems. My enthusiasm as a cyclist, collector and purveyor of fine cycling products has only grown over the years and continues to fuel my passion as a business owner. It is with great excitement that I bring my experience to Asheville, North Carolina as Tangent Cycles.
Farm-to-table American cuisine, craft cocktails & a robust wine list in an upscale-casual setting.
We are a group of cooks, farmers, waiters, cheese-makers, organizers, ranchers, brewers and dishwashers who share a common philosophy about how we eat and in a larger sense, about life.
We believe in the importance of working locally, not just using ingredients from our surrounding area, but also in our contribution to the community. The success of our restaurant has always been closely entwined with the health and progress of our community. For 35 years we have supported the arts, local-needs and education programs.
Our clients have returned over the decades, we hope in part because we have always tried to treat them as family… and friends. Some might say, our food tastes good, perhaps even memorable. Each day, we do our utmost to prepare and present fresh food in a creative manner with a craftsman’s hand. Working in the most sustainable way possible is important.
The Market Place has been a fixture in downtown Asheville since 1979. Though it’s beginnings rose in the streams and mountains of western North Carolina – a place of mountain trout and small farms – it also has a hand and heart inspired by traditions far from our borders. This mélange of local food prepared with other worldly traditions of the table may have helped the Market Place garner national attention but the keen reverence for the heritage and roots of Appalachia has always remained at the center of what we do.

I’m a classically trained pastry chef, and I’ve worked in the restaurant industry for (cough cough) a looong time. That’s where I learned to be so witty. 😉 In 2014 I started making cute little custom cakes for friends and family. Just for fun, because I missed making art, because friends don’t let friends eat a dry cake. Then people started requesting them, paying for them, coming up with crazy ideas. I spent the next year or so making four or five celebration cakes a week, holding down a full-time job, and running my entire business from a Facebook page.

The second location is in Downtown West Asheville on Haywood Rd. The newsest location is in Biltmore Park Town Square in South Asheville.
Our cuisine consists of Caribbean inspired pasta dishes, rice dishes, a handful of traditional pasta dishes, daily specials, and an array of locally made desserts.
We carry a variety of local and micro brews as well as a specially picked selection of wine. Our non-alcoholic beverages include Jumex Nectars, San Pellegrino, and Fountain Sodas (Yes, we have Cheerwine!). The West and South locations also serve an array of Caribbean Cocktails.
It is our pleasure to provide everyone from our nearby neighbors to our visitors from afar with great food and a pleasurable dining experience.
We invite you to come by and look forward to seeing you!
Asheville Bicycle Company is not just another “Bike Shop.” We offer the most progressive customer service and customer retention programs available. We strive to make your purchase not only the right purchase but to give you peace of mind that Asheville Bicycle Company is behind you all the way – from the day you make a purchase to the coming years that you enjoy that purchase.
Asheville Bicycle Company is a part of the Ski Country Sports family. Ski Country Sports began in 1990, specializing in ski equipment, clothing and inline skates. However, the shop quickly grew to also become one of the leading bike shops in the area with a full line of bicycles, including road, mountain, BMX and youth bikes. The shop also boasts one of the largest service centers in Asheville and the surrounding area. In 2015, the bike portion of the shop broke off into Asheville Bicycle Company, which remains the leading area dealer of Giant and Kona products.
